His MVP season was a joke (the writers were just tired of giving it to Bonds at that point (note:his season itself was fucking RETARDED, but it was all due to Bonds' presence in the line up)), he played mediocre defense, and he didn't have a long enough peak to get him in on his first try. His raw offensive numbers are pretty good, but he did play at a time when EVERYONE's offensive numbers were pretty gaudy.
Also, not to raise the specter of PED's, but his offensive peak did occur right around his 30th, just about the same time that steroids started showing up in the game.
Yeah his career batting numbers are very good, and he was the best hitting second baseman during his career. He's a hall of famer but it dpends on who would be going in with him in 2014. At this point not too many that wouldn't already be in.
Also I agree with SK that the Roids spector is on him a bit because he has ties to Balco and was more buddypal with Bonds than anyone on the Giants.
