Is this how it feels every week...

to be the one staring down the barrel of the Sam Hammich ???
The dude is already being spotted almost 20 puntas over me!!!!

The only good news for me:
Earnest Graham is going up against the Denver defense.
Should be good for 20+

Monday, September 29, 2008

Thats right. Benching Mucho Stinko for a dude with a broken arm

I figure what the hell --- maybe Bobby Engram will only get 50 or 60 yards.
That would surpass 85s output from the first 3 weeks.

And this warning is for you, Randy Moss: Get your shit together or you're next!

***SAN***
WR Bobby Engram, Sea (54%) – Last call. Engram is expected to return from a shoulder injury in Week 5. He'll immediately step into a starting role and will likely assume go-to duties – Matt Hasselbeck loves the guy

New thoughts on benching once you've "WON"

Thinking about it -- YES, once you've scored more and the other team has no other players, it is 100% in you best interest to bench the remainder of your team.
Say Heath Miller has a fumble -- AJ & the Sidekick are tied.
So regardless of how Conan would play fantasy football, I think securing the win is too important to worry about getting a blowout.

I have wish list

it includes a top-flight TE and a dependable running back. You can have anyone on my team except Calvin Johnson and Trent Edwards (a man's gotta have keepers).

For example, I recent sent the spooner this trade:

Duece McCallister and Terrell Owens for Antonio Gates and Julius Jones. If this is the kinda thing you want, let me know.

Oh how the might have fallen.

Looks like me & AJ have both succumbed to the cruel winds of Fate and joined the ranks of the dirty masses.

***SAN***
Not ready to give this one up quite yet!
IF, and its a big if, Big Ben lights the Dirty Birds up and pushes their Defense towards negative territory, and doesnt get sacked 9 times, no picks, etc...
AND
Mendenhall gets loosey-goosey with the rock and coughs up a couple fumble-rooskies
THEN
The 'Uar still has a chance at choking this one out.

3rd quarter St L 14 Bills 6

With Denver going down (whoa) if Buffalo can scrape together a solid D and 1 touchdown followed by another score, I could win at something sporty this year. . .

Or tie for holding out the longest. As a State fan I'm used to counting the moral victories. And morale deflations!

This is directed to the Bakula, RE: Questionable

What say we agree to leave in our players that are questionable?
Otherwise, Im F-ed in the A.

Thursday, September 25, 2008

P-Diddy?

Anyone notice the highest-scoring player in FF is Phillip Rivers?

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

So who has Plaxico?

And who baited him to force the suspension?

Is this what happens when a teams QB is NOT a prima donna? Those crazy giants

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

F you, Fast Willie!

Why didnt you go down LAST week.
I think at this point, my only valid keepers are the Tard Manning, Chester & Owen Daniels.
Not sure about how the rest of you feel about this season, but I have shot it fuck all.

Granted, some of you may say that Mendenhall & Deuce were sloppy seconds that would be around next season in late rounds, but I thought the point of our league was to actually KEEP players.
Oh well.

***SAN***
yes, Im a whiny beech:

Mon, Sep 22 Larry Holder, of the Biloxi Sun-Herald, reports New Orleans Saints RB Deuce McAllister was never in the team's game plan for Week 3, according to head coach Sean Payton.

***SAN #2 ****
HFS -- I forgot about Earnest Graham as a keeper. Ignore all previous whining.
He & the Tard: Keepers!

Help Wanted

Kansas City Chiefs seeking person (and we use the term loosely) with arm (two are preferable but not a requirement) to aid in team becoming the laughing stock of the league. Must love humiliation and have the ability to smile in the face of a high paid running back while simultaneously recommending to the coach that he play his backup.

Seriously, this has to be the first time ever in which a team has started each of its first four games with no QB getting consecutive starts. Too bad I played DB in high school or I'd be on the first thing smoking to Missouri!

Holy crap. I MIGHT be looking at 4-0

Checking out the Genuine Bakula's lineup:

Available:
Moss
Driver
Felix Hones
Johnson
McGahee

BYE
Brown
Manning
Hasselback -- I assume he'll pick up a QB. I hear DelHomme is available.
Giants -- I assume he'll pick up a D.

HURT
McFadden
Shockey -- Getting a quality TE is going to be tough.

Good luck.

80% of the way to 5 and 13 ????

2 Things...

I've got a bad feeling that Truth in Advertising is going to end my little winning streak this week. I've got to be due for one of those "I can't believe he didn't score any points!" weeks.

Also...

How in the H-E-double hockey sticks is the Spooner Express rolling along undefeated having put up the second LOWEST scoring total in the league. He's a statistical anomaly!

Crap. Anyone want a #3 and #5 pick for a WR ???

Mon, Sep 22 Scott Petrak, of the Medina County Gazette, reports Cleveland Browns QB Derek Anderson (forearm) will likely start for the team in Week 4. However, he could have a quick hook should he struggle. QB Brady Quinn will likely receive more reps during practice this week. Head coach Romeo Crennel said the staff was evaluating every position on the team, including quarterback.

After week 4, I should have Derek Anderson on the block, and assuming he doesnt produce, Mucho Stinko also.

1st of the season???

Blockbuster trade approved by the commish:

The 80's Babies sends Kurt Warner (Ari) and M. Pittman (Den) to Hella Monsters for Eddie Royal (Den), Ryan Grant (GB) and future help in finding the most nutritious (and cheapest) buffet in Sin City!

Let's keep the wheeling and dealing going!!!!!

What the hell is the O/U on this game?

Whatever it is, hopefully you bet the over. Because there may be a combined 50 points scored before the half (25 off Favre interceptions, thanks Brett).

Cock.

I was only kidding cockface, you can quit throwing them.

I'm flush with RB's

Wow me with some offers, beeches. Maybe a top3 TE and a good QB?

Um, no.

From the UNC Team Report:

"North Carolina was on the verge of taking control of the ACC Coastal Division..."

That's some serious spin right there. How can you be on the verge of taking control when you haven't taken a snap?

Re-diculous.

Kind of amusing, however, that the writer refers to their backup QB as Greg Paulus. That has to get under the skin of the B-ball faithful.

The fact the pick'em is named "Keeping AJ Happy"

and he has yet to make a pick means he is either:
Not paying attention
OR
A ringer waiting on us to get confident in that our lead is insurmountable, at which time he starts going 16/16

Time to Fling Poo at the NFL Schedule

How am I so terrible at picking NFL games?

I'm third from last in my dad's pool (100+ people, the 2nd time in 3 weeks), last in ours, and not so hot in Yellow Ben's. I varried my picks, too.

The article referenced by Mr. Pooler on Saturday

Courtesy of the WSJ

I've given up even trying to pretend Im 1/2 decent @ fantasy football

Pooler, AJ & El Tino seem to be running away with the league.
Not being able to field a single WR is KILLING me.

Sunday, September 21, 2008

Also

Pooler, you should have started both Jack Johnson and TJ O'Sullivan (and wore your requisite 38 pieces of flair)!

Is it wrong

that I consider the Ryder Cup a much bigger deal than the Olympics? I much more enjoy watching it, get a larger feeling of national pride, and find myself rooting much harder for the participants.

Granted, its 90% from Brady being hurt

But if there is anyone in our league that has a worse receiving tandem than Moss & Ocho Stinko, I'd like to know.

BTW - Graham: 16 total yards against the Bears.

That, mon freres, is 5 points from 3 players.

***SAN***
The answer is NO -- no one has a worse tandem than me yet.
The caveat on that -- IF Chambers gets 0 points, El Tino will get 3 from his top receivers.

Ronnie Brown,

You hate me.

Sweet sassy molassy!!!

RB Chester Taylor could see his first significant action of the season Sunday if starting RB Adrian Peterson's hamstring injury is still bothering him. Peterson was limited in Wednesday’s practice.

UPDATE

Thu, Sep 18 Rick Alonzo, of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (hamstring) expects to ready to play Week 3. "I feel I'll be ready to go," Peterson said. "Just take it one day at a time. Just give it a little time to rest." Peterson said his hamstring began to tighten up in the fourth quarter of the team's Week 2 game.

Could be worse than the financial crisis?!?

Not sure if this belong here or the regular blog, but I going with this one to be safe.

Can Minters and Spooner play each other? I mean they are run by the same person aren't they? Is this not exactly like when the same person from two different times occupies the same space like Ron Silver in Timecop (I love JCVD).

This matchup could cause a cataclysmic event the likes of which we have never seen. SCARED!!!!!

Week 3 matchups actually look really good for me

Manning @ Cincy
Moss @ Miami
Graham @ Chicago --- Carolina ran at will, so NO FEAR!!!
Norwood @ KC -- this might pan out after all
Gates @ NYJ
Jones @ StL -- need to see how Brandon Jacobs did
Kasay @ Minn
Seattle @ StL

Only concern, of course:
Johnson @ NYG -- Grande' Stink'O

Now, as life has shown me, any bit of confidence I develop, especially about topics I know little if anything about, will be ground into a fine powdery dust of shame.
Well, a boy can dream!

Let me just say... even without Wash Trades

I think this is exciting -- Im fairly certain we're actually going to see some legit wheelin' and dealin', as opposed to 1 trade for the entire season.

Trading Block

I need a Tight End that's good. I have an extra top tier WR (Owens, Wayne, Housh, and Johnson). I also have some interested RB options like San Diego's Sproles.

A small light in the tunnel ? I hope!

RB Jerious Norwood, Atl (77%) – Not much doing for Norwood at Tampa in Week 2 (6-for-18), but 10-12 touches backing up Michael Turner in Week 3 could prove fruitful against the generous Kansas City run defense.

Not happy to read this... AT ALL!!!

Cutler is salt in the wounds of those who passed him over in favor of Carson Palmer and Derek Anderson. While certainly their individual efforts can't be pardoned, both AFC North signal-callers have been victims of some tough matchups and some inclement weather. Combined they've been able to produce just one TD pass to five interceptions through two games. In Week 3, Cincinnati travels to play the New York Giants and Cleveland heads to Baltimore. In other words, no light to be seen in this tunnel yet.

OR THIS GEM

Week 1 star Willie Parker was third in the league in carries last season, despite missing one game. And, through two games in '08, Parker has at least five more carries (53) than any other back in the league. And what about that rookie running back that was supposed to come in and cut into Parker's carries and steal his goal-line glory? Rashard Mendenhall received nary a touch in a wet, sloppy Sunday night victory at Cleveland. He did handle 10 carries in Week 1 when the Steelers jumped out to a big lead on Houston. But, clearly, the Steelers have indicated that the meaningful minutes are all Parker's for now. Mendenhall's touches are going to have to build up the old-fashioned way – he's going to have to earn them.

Fantasy Trading Block

Just a reminder: I still have Kurt Warner (Ari) available for trade. I'm looking for some help at my Wide Receiver/Running Back position. Although I'm happy holding him until the end of the season, so that no one else can reap the rewards that he could possibly bring a team, I do not feel threatened enough to NEED to carry three top flight QB's all season. That may sound a little cocky but what the hey!!! I'm an 80's baby living the dream! Whooo-hooooo!!!!!!!!!!!

There appears to be hope for me & my nascent NFL career...

Yuck. Well, what did I expect out of my 14th pick ?

Given Pierre Thomas’ impressive performance in Week 1 (10 carries for 52 yards), the Saints aren’t in a rush to get McAllister back on the field. McAllister shouldn’t be part of your fantasy plans this weekend, as it’s unclear how many (if any) carries he will see.

Looks like Pooler & AJ are the elites of the league.

Truth in Advertising 51
Spooner Express 72

Terry Tate All Stars 84
Minters Hard Hitters 62

Hella Monsters 59
Sam Handwhich 137

The Crows 49
The 80's Babies 119

Nasheville Toupee 73
mustprotecthishouse3 56

MAYBE, just maybe, Pooler's theory of not getting shit drunk @ the draft is working to his advantage.

I'm a fan of football and there is a football team at ECU

SO, I remember Steve Logan being run out of there for taking them to a bowl game a bunch of times before there were 30+ bowls, opening the door for Holtz Jr to make a move. Will two wins over formerly ranked teams prove the ouster of what I thought was a pretty good coach a winnable investment for the Pirate nation? Now part of my near -fanhood for Pirate nation involves a summer spent there in high school and a fairly rememberable relationship with a curvy coed in Fletcher Hall.

Anyone know where Logan is now? He used to have a talk show on 620 or 850 for a while that was pretty darn good.

Clemson 17 Pack 9 with a quarter to go. Not out of reach and certainly proving Clemson is NOT the team the pundits have hoped to have. Is the Tommy Ticker on again?

I was kind of aware this was going on, but damn...

Cliff Lee 22-2.

Can we say complete fluke of a season. I almost want to do fantasy baseball next year just to watch peple grab him up, then snicker when he regresses back to the mean.

Still, 22-2 is damn impressive; although he may still not win the AL Cy Young because of K-rod!

Keeping ECU talk to a minimum

Since our disdain for anything ECU is pervasive on this blog, I'll provide everyone with the University of Florida umbrella to squelch any further ECU posturing. Even the sun shines on a pirate's ass some days. State will return to prominence, just like ECU's 15 minutes will be over very soon.

Now this is not to confuse our abject love for all things pirate as we all know International pirate day is next week. Comparisons of pirates to ECU grads are definitely acceptable. Well...... I guess it's even hard to compare, because even though a pirate's favorite letter of the alphabet is "R"rrrrr, it's usually the only letter of the alphabet an ECU grad knows.

Sweet! Not feeling bad about my decision.

Scott Petrak, of The Medina County Gazette, reports Cleveland Browns WR Donte' Stallworth (quadriceps) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 11. He is considered doubtful for Week 2.

BTW.. im sure the majority of you are Moo U or Holes fans so..

giggity giggity giggity

Not that Im any good at this Fantasy Foosball thing

I just noticed one thing that might actually help me out:
I THINK I have the best defense in the worst division.
At this point, Seattle gets SF, Arizona and St Louis twice each.
That alone should make me golden.

Picked up Jerious Norwood -- anyone know if punt/kick off yards count, or is it just TDs? Apparently, my stra-tergery this season is to handcuff #2 RBs: Deuce, Mendenhall, Chester & now Norwood.

Thursday, September 11, 2008

OMG

Carolina's Dante Rosario is now projected to score more fantasy points than Washington's Chris Cooley.

Eff Jason Campbell in the A!!!!

BTW, there's still plenty of room on the Carolina Panther's bandwagon as it is still very early in the season. I, myself, have always been a big fan of the Panthers, Jake Delhomme and Bojangle's fried chicken and biscuits!

P.S.
College basketball is only a few months away and I know that a few of you were fortunate enough to attend NC State U. and also unfortunate enough to have to continue to pull for their major sports teams. I admit the only college sport that I care about at all is men's basketball and as some of you may have learned (or maybe not) I've been a faithful UNC-CH fan for the better part of two decades. Just to piss off The Hudson (among others) a bit....

See Al Harris get lit the fuck up!

Holy shit!

Titans asked for police help to find QB Young

I saw Merrill Hodge go OFF on VY yesterday on Sports Center (which, since I was up @ 3 AM , I watched about 7 times)

Damn Right

Looking back at the Draft.

I think I would have taken Steve Slaton instead of Donte Stallworth, if only for the '09 potential.

Since I already have the handcuff on Chester, Im also thinking about getting the handcuff on the Falcons #2.

What an overall shit way to start the season. I do not like this part of me that is wishing & hoping for people to get hurt.
Willie Parker.
P.J.
Reggie Bush. Well... thats acceptable.

Holy shit.

Ex-UFC champ dies at 37

Former UFC middleweight champion Evan Tanner was found dead in a Southern California desert

Mon, Sep 8 Burleson is out for the season because of a knee injury.

AND...it gets better!

Donte' Stallworth (quad) sustained a quadriceps injury during Week 1 pregame warmups and did not play. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI Monday, Sept. 8, and an update on his status for Week 2 is expected Wednesday, Sept. 10.

Trading Block!!!!

I've got Kurt Warner on the trading block for those looking for QB help.

How Many First Rounders?

How many first rounders will show up on the injury report? By my count, I see Tom Brady (knee) (not really first rounder but would be if not kept), Marion Barber (ribs), Joseph Addaii (head), and LaDanian Tomlinson (toe).

Also, I would like to point out that I am offically out of every survival pool I entered (three). And, my father decided I'm a man now and invited me to joing his fraternity's 104-person pick-'em league. My first week in. My first week as a man. I finished dead last. My correct picks were the Jets, Falcons, Eagles, and Patriots. This is strait-up pick 'em, too.

Same result in Yellow Ben's pick 'em. Last place.

As for fantasy, I had a pretty decent week. I will lose in our league but won in my other three.

Love Letters from SCW

Dear Dude at the Bar wearing the LT jersey:

Perhaps you should have spent your money on some football lessons instead of that fancy jersey. A fumble recovered in your OWN endzone is NOT A SAFETY. Never has been; never will be. I promise. Oh, and your girlfriend is obviously a prostitute. I hope you're getting your fair share.

Dear San Diego D:

You suck.

Dear Ryan Grant:

If you don't have a Willie Parker-esque night tomorrow night, I will CUT you.

XOXO,
SCW

PS -- Ryan...er...by CUT, I mean with a knife, not, you know, from the team. 'Cause really, you're all I got.

Yikes

CBS is reporting that Tom Brady has torn three knee ligaments. I think Merriman proved, that with a little stupidity, you can play with two. But three?

Much like Rocky V......

This week in FFL never happened. How did the three best teams from last year become the three worst teams? Ouch! Sam Handwich will still be even though this week is bad.

But my team and the soon to be known as Sans Brady have no hope.

Mid-Game Report

-Michael Turner is KILLING for the Atlanta Falcons

-Tom Brady is getting a MRI on his knee

-Randy Moss is STILL catching TDs

What was he thinking???

Eff Jason Campbell and all that he stands for!!!!!

Fri, Sep 5 Ryan O'Halloran, of The Washington Times, reports Washington Redskins TE Chris Cooley was targeted just once on QB Jason Campbell's 27 passes in Week 1.

I need Todd Collins promoted ASAP!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, LaRon Landry...

What should you do if you see the train coming???

Note from the Sidekick: Let's add a little multimedia to this show:

Anyone know a good "HITMAN"????

I need Jason Campbell (Redskins) taken out!!! I'm already campaigning for whoever his backup is! BTW, does anyone know who's backing him up because another week of this crap and some die-hard Redskins fan will do my dirty work for me. He could only get my amazing, beast of a tight end one single catch for seven yards!!!!! Are you kidding me???!!! I may be in the market for a new tight end because the QBs throwing to the ones that I have either suck or are unproven. Here's hoping Flacco can get Todd Heap the ball next week, I'll be looking closely at his stats for the game on Sunday. Eff Me!!!!!

Wed, Sep 3 WEEI 850AM Sports Radio in Boston reports sources have indicated that New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady (foot) has a cracked bone in his foot. Brady is still expected to play Sunday, Sept. 7.

If Brady cant throw to Moss, 2 or us are F-ed in the A.

Rudi's big day

Credit: ProFootballTalk.com - RUDI’S CRAZY DAY IN DETROIT

A strange thing happened to running back Rudi Johnson when he visited with the Detroit Lions on Monday.

Someone stole his stuff.

Seriously.

Specifically, and as we’re told by a reliable source (i.e., not the person who told Mort that Joey Harrington had agreed to terms with the Ravens on Monday, or the person who told John Clayton that Todd Bouman had agreed to terms with the Ravens on Tuesday), Johnson left his bags outside CEO Matt Millen’s office while he met with team officials and, ultimately, worked out a deal with the team.

So when Johnson came back to get his bags, they were nowhere to be found. Johnson and Millen were stumped.

Enter the eye in the sky.

The team checked the videotapes generated by the team’s in-house surveillance system, and they quickly identified the culprit.

So who might it have been? None other than Tatum Bell, who lost his gig with the Lions after Rudi arrived.

Per the source, Bell took the bags to the house of a female acquaintance. When confronted on the matter, Bell offered up some cockamamie story that he thought the bags belonged to someone he knew. The girl, however, said that she hadn’t seen Bell in several months and he showed up out of the blue and asked her to keep the bags for a while.

Johnson has retrieved the bags, and it’s our understanding that charges won’t be pressed.

Tatum apparently didn’t know that he was being monitored.

Fortunately, the displaced running back wasn’t Najeh Davenport.

Well, holy shit!

Couture remains in UFC, fights Lesnar in November!

I actually thought about it breaking this way about a month ago, but with the UFC telling Randy 'we'll let you out after one more fight, but it has to be Lesnar'.

As it stands now, he's re-signing with the UFC, and they are going to attempt to work out a fight with Fedor in the next 6 months or so (probably for their Superbowl weekend show).

LOL -- should have posted this on Friday.

I guess I lucked up not taking Rudi

Willie Anderson, Rudi Johnson cut by Bengals

Aug 30, 9:22 pm EDT

CINCINNATI (AP)—Offensive tackle Willie Anderson and running back Rudi Johnson lost their starting jobs with the Cincinnati Bengals during training camp. Now they’ve lost their roster spots, too.

The Bengals released Anderson and Johnson on Saturday as part of their moves to get to the 53-man roster limit.

Hmm... how to fill the slot???

The man on his 4th team in 4 years who has to share with at least 3 other guys???

After moving around to four different teams in as many years, Cleveland Browns fans hope Donte' Stallworth has finally found a home. The former first round selection is a big play receiver and averages over 15 yards per catch on his career. The same can be expected in Cleveland this year. It will be interesting to see how quarterback Derek Anderson adapts to Stallworth's style of play and if the two can find a connection down the field. Stallworth probably will not be a favorite target in the endzone for Anderson, but he should still get to the promise land a few times due to his big play capabilities.

Or the SUPER SLEEPER on a 100% pass oriented offense?

With Deion Branch out for the foreseeable future, Nate Burleson looks to inherit a starting WR position. Burleson has twice caught 9 TD's in a season and has been dangerous not only as a receiver, but also as a returner. His last stint as a first stringer came in 2004 while he was with Minnesota and if he can hold on to his starting gig for a complete season in Seattle, he should easily surpass his previous career highs of 68 catches and 1006 yards receiving. Courtney Taylor, Ben Obomanu, Logan Payne, or even rookie Jordan Kent could step up and fill-in if Burleson falters, so he'll need to stay sharp throughout pre-season.

Or the weak-kneed backup to R.B. who wont be a "Brian Westbrook" clone?

Deuce McAllister enters the 2008 season hoping to be fully recovered from a torn ACL suffered during the 2007 season. If McAllister can prove that he is healthy in training camp, he will enter the season as the Saints' main backup running back and will steal carries from Reggie Bush. If he is truly healthy, he may split carries pretty evenly with Bush; while Bush will get the majority of the receiving work out of the backfield. If McAllister is not cut before the season starts, fantasy owners will want to handcuff McAllister to Reggie Bush in the later rounds of fantasy drafts.

Here's hoping for a good season !!!

LINK

Expect Graham to be the focal point of the Buccaneers' offense in 2008, in which he should top 1,200 yards and 12 TD's as well as catch over 50 passes for 500 yards and a couple of TD's (giving him added value in a league that gives points per reception).

Must remember: Bench DA when it gets cold!

LINK

When the weather got cold in December, Anderson started to struggle throwing seven touchdowns and eight interceptions in those five games.

I realized it was a BIG assumption when I bagged him.

Chester Taylor enters the 2008 season as the backup to Adrian Peterson in Minnesota. Taylor is one of the league's best backup running backs and could fill in for Peterson if he were to go down with an injury. Fantasy owners who draft Adrian Peterson should make sure to handcuff him with Chester Taylor in the mid-to-later rounds. While Taylor stole some carries from Peterson in 2007, his workload should decrease if Peterson is able to stay healthy throughout 2008. Assuming that Peterson is healthy, Taylor should not have major value in fantasy leagues.

Did we miss out on Steve Slaton ???

Or is he too small?

And BTW -- the 80's babies and their ZANY drafting of Kurt "Methuselah" Warner may look as prescient as the Bakula picking up Hasselbeck.

Big Numbers!

I've got a projected 100 points for my week 1 matchup....watch out for the 80's Babies!!!!

2nd running back blues

Mendenhall apparently has trouble holding onto the ball, and most likely will only get 10 carries in the 1st game.
Chester is backing up P.J.

Either way -- I'm gonna be up against Jamal Lewis & Ryan Grant, so Im behind the 8 ball already.
Sheesh.
